MiHR is proud to launch its Green Jobs Program!

New internship program puts the spotlight on clean technology and innovation to provide 120 meaningful opportunities in the mining sector

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA,ON (July 26, 2017) – The Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) is pleased to announce the launch of the Green Jobs Program which is aimed at helping recent graduates from post-secondary institutions gain relevant and meaningful work experience in the mining sector. The objective of the program is to provide 120 meaningful internship opportunities in the mining sector related to science, technology, engineering and math. These internships, delivered over two-years, should have a focus on clean technology and innovation as well as provide an environmental benefit to Canada. MiHR will contribute up to 50% of an intern’s salary, to a maximum of $12,000. “As a part of MiHR’s mandate, we are constantly looking at ways to grow the labour pool for the mining industry, and an important aspect of this work is to expose recent graduates to the myriad of different career opportunities in the mining sector,” says Ryan Montpellier, MiHR’s executive director.

Funding for this initiative is provided by the Government of Canada through Natural Resources Canada’s  Green Jobs – Science and Technology Internship Program, as part of the Youth Employment Strategy.

The Green Jobs Program is designed to help new graduates transition to long-term employment or to pursue advanced studies, through work experience and mentorship provided by approved hiring organizations. Employers can apply through MiHR’s website to access this funding (www.mihr.ca/careers).

“This investment will offer opportunities for young Canadians to work in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields, while supporting the use of clean technologies and processes in the natural resources sectors and helping to alleviate anticipated shortages of skilled workers”– The Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of Natural Resources.
